Fragrance notes
Character
This opens with a blunt, almost confrontational rose, the Damask note slashed through with something warm and dusty, like a spice jar left open in a dark room. The aromatic spices don't soften the flower so much as they roughen its edges, giving it a feral, unkempt quality before the heart emerges. Then the patchouli and jasmine roll in, not as a floral bouquet but as a dense, damp shadow beneath the rose, while a quiet leather starts to grip the base from below. The vanilla and benzoin arrive as a sticky, balsamic sweetness that never quite pacifies the animalic rumble underneath. The drydown turns into something almost gothic: a leather armchair in a library where someone spilled a vanilla-scented candle and roses are wilting in a brass vase.
This is a chypre floral that leans heavy and warm, with a synthetic edge that keeps it firmly in the designer camp but nudges toward the bizarre. The sillage is moderate, hovering close after an hour, and longevity sits at a respectable but not miraculous three quarters of a day. It feels best when the air has a chill, autumn and winter are its natural home, and it performs with more confidence at night than in daylight. Who should wear it? Someone who wants a rose that snarls, not simpers, and who can handle a dose of leathery warmth without flinching. And who should skip it? Anyone seeking a fresh, airy floral or a sugar-sweet vanilla. This one smells like it’s been kept in a drawer too long, and that is exactly its charm. 🌹
