Francis Kurkdjian built the fragrance around a small handful of notes, not a full pyramid, and that simplicity is the whole point: musk, patchouli and amber do all the work, layered close together instead of unfolding in stages.
Patchouli gives the composition an earthy, slightly damp quality, while musk smooths the transition between the green top and the warmer amber base. The whole thing smells synthetic in a good way, clean and a little cold, the kind of scent that suits an unlined jacket more than a heavy overcoat.
Longevity is strong, staying close to the skin long after the violet leaf has faded into the base. Sillage stays modest, a cool presence that anyone standing beside you will pick up clearly.
