Angélique opens with pink pepper, bergamot, and neroli. The citrus is bright and clean, while the pepper adds a faint sparkle that keeps the start from feeling flat. It moves forward quickly and does not linger in this stage for long.
The heart brings jasmine, neroli, honey, rose, and iris together. The honey sits on top of the white florals and makes the bouquet feel thick. Rose and iris add a soft powder that rounds out the petals and gives the middle a gentle, slightly dusty texture.
The base is the largest part of the fragrance. Labdanum and musk create a warm foundation, while vanilla, caramel, and marshmallow pile on the sugar. The sweetness is heavy and persistent, and the gourmand notes dominate everything that came before them. It feels cozy in cool air and pairs well with a sweater and a quiet afternoon indoors.
The sweetness can become too much. The caramel and marshmallow lean synthetic and lack the depth that the labdanum tries to provide. It is very sweet, very powdery, and very musky all at once, which makes it overwhelming for anyone who prefers a light or airy composition.
