Our take

Vanilla Woods keeps to itself. Pear opens it, juicy and a little tart, fading into a single rose at the heart, and even that rose does not stay the star for long before the base takes over completely. Angela Stavrevska built the whole thing around that handoff, three notes passing the lead from one to the next, never really layering on top of each other.

Vanilla, caramel and amber make up the base, and this is the part of the fragrance doing all the actual work: warm, sweet, a little syrupy, closer to burnt sugar than to clean vanilla bean. The balsamic quality gives it some depth so it does not stay one-dimensional, and the powdery accord softens the caramel's edge, leaving something closer to a dusted confection than a sharp caramel note.

Sillage keeps entirely to the wearer, a private warmth you would need to lean in close to catch at all. Longevity stays in an unexciting but reliable band, thinning gradually rather than dropping out early. It shows up almost entirely in fall and winter, an easy, low-effort vanilla that stays close to the skin, warm and a little syrupy, worn more for the wearer's own comfort than for anyone else's notice.
