Our take

BAE by KKW Fragrance opens with a sharp, candied burst of mandarin orange and kiwi, the citrus so glossy it feels lacquered, punctuated by a bright bergamot fizz. That initial sweetness quickly softens into a tropical heart of sun-bleached coconut nectar and creamy gardenia, the jasmine sambac adding a slightly indolic lift that keeps it from being a flat piña colada. The dry down settles into a familiar vanilla musk, the sandalwood lending a powdery, woody base that hugs close to skin.

The overall character is a sweet, fruity floral that reads like a melted popsicle on a hot pool deck: sticky, cheerful, and utterly ephemeral. It feels resolutely mainstream and synthetic, in the best way for its intention, but there is no escaping the disastrous performance numbers. With a longevity of 2.65 and sillage of 2.71, this is a ghost of a perfume, a fleeting spritz that evaporates within two hours. For a fragrance named after a term of endearment, it acts like a one night stand, gone by morning.

This is a sunny day scent for a teenager or young woman who wants a quick hit of sweetness before heading to class or brunch. It suits spring and summer, preferably worn when you do not need a scent to last through dinner. Skip it if you expect your perfume to project or to survive a workday. At 3.91 stars, the crowd knows it is pleasant and utterly disposable. Who is really buying a perfume for the name alone?
