A heavy wool coat is pulled tighter against the cold air as the bright, sharp peel of bergamot cuts through the chill. The citrus is brief, quickly giving way to a heart of rose that feels steeped in tonka bean. The flower here is not light or dewy. It is thick, its petals dusted with spice and resting against a golden, resinous amber. The oud in the base is present and woody, grounding the blend with a dark, slightly medicinal edge that mingles with a clean musk. The entire composition feels like a warm, enveloping cloud of vanilla and powder, sitting heavily on the skin amidst the aromatic steam of a busy street corner where breath fogs in the air.
The richness is undeniable, but the synthetic edge on the tonka and the rose becomes distracting as the minutes pass. The amber and oud provide a beautiful, deep foundation, yet the floral heart lacks the natural nuance found in more refined compositions. It feels somewhat flat and overly reliant on that powdery, artificial sweetness to carry the weight of the scent. The spices offer a sharp contrast, but they cannot fully mask the plastic quality that emerges from the heart notes. It is a bold attempt at a heavy oriental style that ultimately feels rough around the edges.
