Our take

Tory Burch’s Mystic Geranium opens with a sharp, bright burst of bergamot that feels a bit too eager and synthetic at first, as if the citrus is trying to prove a point rather than simply unfolding. That brisk, slightly brittle start is the fragrance’s most obvious limitation, and it never quite disappears into the background. Once the top note settles, the heart reveals a crisp geranium layered with the soft, watery petal of lotus. The geranium is green and lightly peppery, while the lotus adds a clean, barely-there floral touch that keeps the mix from leaning too herbal. In the base, musk and cedar step in with a dry, pale woodiness. The musk is smooth and a little powdery, and the cedar gives it a faint, polished grain. Among the accords, the fresh spicy and aromatic sides sit comfortably next to the musky and woody base, though the promised rose accord is too faint to really register. It is a daytime scent that fits a bright morning with the windows open and the air still cool, the kind of fragrance that feels at home with bare arms and a breeze moving through a room. It does not try to be complex or daring; it stays close to the skin and behaves. Still, that sharp opening remains, and it may always feel a little thin and unforgiving.
