Our take

Things We Never Shared opens like a holiday market that’s been soaking in rain for three days. The mulled wine and Advocaat are there, but they’re sticky and dented, tangled with a narcissus that smells bruised rather than fresh. Within minutes, the mid shifts into a sugar-paste chaos: panettone, Sacher torte, macarons, croissant, all competing under a slick of honey and cassis. It’s not gourmand in any cozy way. It’s the smell of a bakery after a power outage, warm and faintly sour, with a thread of something metallic that might be the “Poison” note. The drydown settles into cacao, hand cream, and toffee, but the balsam fir and nard keep it from tipping into dessert. You end up with a fuzzy, lactonic woody base that clings to skin like a sticky handprint.

This is a heavy, synthetic-leaning composition that feels niche in intention but muddled in execution. The longevity is decent at nearly four hours, but the sillage is modest, barely projecting beyond arm’s length. It suits someone who craves overstuffed, almost claustrophobic sweetness and doesn’t mind a lack of clarity. Skip it if you want a refined gourmand or any kind of balance. Best worn on a bitter winter night, indoors, when you’re alone and don’t mind smelling like a regretful dessert buffet. The whole thing is a slice of panettone left out too long, hardening at the edges, still edible but no longer inviting.
