Barocco opens with a bold sweep of marzipan and bitter almond, softened by sweet orange and a dark ribbon of red wine. The combination feels dense and edible from the first moment, leaning heavily into the fragrance's sweet and nutty accords. There is a slight sharpness from the almond that keeps the opening from becoming purely sugary, but the overall impression is rich and thick. As the scent develops, candied fruits and coffee emerge alongside Peru balsam and tonka bean. The coffee adds a roasted depth that grounds the sugary fruit, while the balsam brings a resinous warmth that blends smoothly with the amber and musk waiting in the base.
The heart feels busy, with many accords competing for attention at once. Sweet, balsamic, fruity, and warm spicy elements all press forward, and the composition does not leave much room for any single note to breathe. In a dimly lit room during cold weather, the resinous patchouli and tolu balsam create a heavy, enveloping warmth that suits a slow evening. The density is constant, and the scent stays close to its gourmand core throughout. The main drawback is that the blend can feel crowded, with too many strong accords layered at once, making it difficult to pick out individual details clearly.
