Our take

Woman No 3 opens with a brisk spritz of cassia and bergamot, the cinnamon-like warmth of the cassia bumping against tart citrus and a handful of freshly crushed green leaves. It is bright, slightly prickly, and unmistakably cheerful. As the top notes settle, a demure rose and jasmine heart emerges, floral but never heady, like a well-behaved bouquet placed on a sunlit windowsill. The dry down softens into sandalwood and vanilla, a powdery, slightly woody cream that clings close to the skin. The overall character feels like a polite spring morning in a suburban garden, where the flowers are neatly trimmed and the breeze is too timid to carry their scent far.

This is a perfectly competent mainstream fruity floral, but it lives in the shallow end. Longevity hovers around three hours, sillage barely an arm’s length, so it whispers rather than announces. The opening has a faint synthetic edge, a consequence of budget constraints, but the dry down is pleasant and inoffensive. It suits someone who wants a light, fuss free pick me up for daytime errands, brunch, or a casual office. Skip it if you crave projection, lasting power, or any hint of complexity. Wear it in spring or summer, never after dusk, and accept that you will need to reapply. Anne Flipo composed a friendly little scent that knows its limits, and stays well inside them.
