Cognac is the whole opening of Angels' Share, warm and boozy without a single other top note to share the space with it. It is a strange, confident way to start a fragrance, and one that turns out to be long-lasting, holding its shape well before it ever softens.
Cinnamon and tonka bean move in for the heart, joined by oak for a dry, barrel-aged texture that keeps the cognac idea going without repeating it outright. Hedione adds a soft, slightly floral lift underneath, subtle enough that it takes a second wearing to place.
Vanilla, praline, and candied almond turn the base sweet, closer to a glass of something aged than to sugar on its own. Sandalwood runs underneath the sweetness, giving it a woody backbone and a drier edge than the praline and almond alone would suggest.
The sillage forms a modest bubble, close and warm rather than loud, the kind of presence you notice more on a jacket than in open air. Cold nights are its best setting, when the cognac and cinnamon combination feels richest, and the whole thing runs through as one clear idea from start to finish.
