Aquelarre
Fragrance notes
Character
Aquelarre asks a lot of the wearer before it gives much back. The opening hits hard with leather and smoke that feel abrasive rather than inviting, and the orange blossom and bergamot do little to soften that first impression. Rose and clary sage add a green, herbal edge that keeps the top notes sharp and somewhat unwelcoming. This is not a fragrance that tries to please on first spray, and some will find that initial roughness off-putting.
Tobacco and whiskey soon move in with custard and saffron, creating a thick, resinous heart. Cambodian oud and choya ral deepen the smoke while cognac adds a boozy sweetness that feels heavy on the skin. Labdanum and sandalwood anchor the blend with a woody, ambreine-rich base that carries the scent clearly through a cold evening walk or a dimly lit room. Orcanox™ supports the blend so the tobacco and leather remain present for a long time without needing another application.
The custard and saffron make the sweetness feel dense rather than airy, which limits how often it suits a casual mood. Aquelarre stays bold and unapologetic, but that same weight makes it difficult to wear when a lighter touch is needed.
