Our take

You know that moment when a green stem snaps and a fat, creamy petal tears? That is Number One Intense. Patricia de Nicolai opens with a slap of galbanum and black currant so sharp it could slice summer air, then a marigold’s earthy fizz before the white florals roll in like a wet, perfumed fog. Tuberose and jasmine are heavy here, but the black currant leaf keeps them from slipping into syrup, dragging a bitter, tangy thread through the whole bouquet. The drydown is sandalwood and amber with a muted musk, a warm, slightly powdery landing after all that floral brawl.

This is a composition that feels both polished and wilful, like a woman who wears silk to weed her garden and means it. It reads as niche in its refusal to sweeten the florals for mass appeal, but the execution is classic French perfumery, clean and precise rather than raw or animalic. The projection is polite, sitting at a 3.18 sillage, and longevity hovers around three and a half hours before it becomes a skin scent. That is the honest weakness: you will need to reapply if you want the tuberose to follow you into evening. On the other hand, it never clobbers a room, which makes it ideal for daytime wear, especially in spring or fall. Who should wear it? Someone who loves white flowers but craves a green, almost peppery bite underneath. Who should skip it? Anyone hoping for a sweet, vanilla-flecked floral or a bombastic night-out statement. Is a fragrance really “intense” when it whispers more than it shouts? That is for you to decide after you spray it on your wrist and let it do its slow, graceful thing. 🌿
