Our take

Apricot and hay open the door, but this is not a bright morning stroll. The fruit arrives soft and slightly bruised, sitting on a bed of dry grass that smells of warm dust and open fields. It feels immediate and a bit unexpected, pulling you in with a gentle sweetness that does not try too hard to impress.

The heart turns darker as leather joins the osmanthus and ylang-ylang. Rose adds a powdery touch that keeps the florals from feeling too heavy, while the leather brings a worn, familiar texture. It creates a mood that fits a dimly lit room where wood panels line the walls and a low fire burns in the hearth.

Jean-Louis Sieuzac composed Joyaux, and the base shows his hand. Indonesian patchouli leaf, cedar, and sandalwood mix with tobacco, gurjan balsam, and oud. The result is a woody, warm spicy profile that feels rich and settled, moving through fresh spicy and yellow floral moments before resting in its deep foundation.

Joyaux is a complex blend, but the sweetness from the opening can clash with the heavier woods if your skin runs warm. The powdery rose also leans a bit too far into an old-fashioned style that some will find dated. It is a specific personality, and it demands a wearer who enjoys that particular vintage lean.
