Our take

Lail Maleki opens with a candied citrus and poached fruit that feels like someone dropped a jasmine flower into a jar of honey, then forgot to seal the lid. The top notes are a sticky blur of tangerine and vague spice, but the real story starts when the white floral heart takes over. Gardenia and orchid get drenched in honey, turning syrupy sweet, with jasmine playing the shrill note that keeps everything from collapsing into pure dessert. On the dry down, caramel and amber emerge like a warm, powdery blanket, with sandalwood and musk softening the edges into something almost cozy. This is a heavy oriental that wears like a grand floral simmered in sugar and left to cool. It smells mainstream in the best way Lattafa does, unabashedly synthetic but lush, like a department store perfume from a decade ago, now sold for a fraction of the price. The longevity is decent for the cost, around five hours, and sillage is moderate, close enough to hug but not announce. The numbers don't lie, it gets cloying in heat and leans more clubbing than office, so skip it if you hate sweet or need versatility. Wear this for a winter dinner or a fall evening when you want to smell like a candied orchid corsage wilting under a heat lamp. Best reserved for those who enjoy their florals with a side of dessert and don't mind a little synthetic weight.
