Our take

Syceus opens with a sharp green edge that can feel thin and slightly scratchy. Galbanum leads the first impression, giving the sweet orange and black currant a bitter, leafy bite that some will find too abrupt. The fig adds a mild creamy softness, but it does not fully smooth out that initial roughness. This tart green opening is bright and clear, yet it lacks the roundness that makes similar citrus and fruit blends feel welcoming right away.

The heart quickly shifts toward a dense white floral mix. Lily-of-the-valley and orange blossom carry the composition, supported by freesia, violet, and rose. The result is powdery and sweet, with the violet lending a soft, slightly dusty floral tone. The fruity top notes linger underneath, creating a fruity floral that leans more toward the flower shop than the fruit bowl. White musk and cedar in the base keep the drydown clean and woody without adding weight or warmth.

The main drawback is that the galbanum never fully settles. Its sharp green character remains present through the heart, occasionally clashing with the powdery florals instead of supporting them. For those who enjoy a smooth, seamless floral, this persistent tartness may feel distracting. The fragrance stays true to its crisp, green floral identity throughout, but that very sharpness is what limits its appeal.
