Our take

Loretta opens with a bold, syrupy plum and a cloud of aldehydes that feels like walking into a memory of backstage at a 1950s cabaret. The damask rose is there, but it’s lacquered, not dewy, and it quickly yields to a tuberose that is both creamy and pushy. Cinnamon and carnation add a spicy warmth that stops the white florals from turning soapy. This is the moment the fragrance announces itself as an opulent, almost theatrical oriental floral.

As it settles, the leather and labdanum take over, but they’re softened by orris and a balsamic resinous sweetness. The patchouli is more woody than dirty, and the ambergris gives a faint animalic warmth that lingers close to the skin. The overall effect is like a vintage lipstick left on a velvet chaise in a smoke-filled room: slightly dated, unapologetically glamorous, and deeply comforting for those who love the old Hollywood version of femininity.

The longevity is solid at nearly four hours, but the sillage is moderate, more intimate than booming. That’s fine for a fragrance this dense. It’s best worn when the air turns cold, preferably for a dinner date or a night out where you want to feel like the most interesting person in the room. Skip this if you’re after something bright, clean, or modern. Loretta is not for the minimalist. It’s for the woman who loves a little drama in her perfume.
