Our take

Juicy Couture’s I Am is a fruit salad tossed in a department store elevator, sweet and sticky enough to leave a film on your teeth. It opens with a blast of raspberry and passionfruit, a tropical citrus fizz from the pomelo that quickly settles into a dense, syrupy core. The heart is all gardenia and sweet pea, white florals dipped in heliotrope’s powdery almond, with a rose so polite it barely waves. Beneath it all, amber and cashmere wood try to anchor the thing, but the musk is too watered down to hold much. The composition feels synthetic in a cheerful, unmistakably mainstream way, like a body spray that wants to be a perfume but can’t afford the rent.

For all its fruity ambition, I Am wears thin. With longevity barely cresting three hours and sillage that sticks close to the collarbone, this is a fragrance that evaporates before you’ve even decided if you like it. It performs best in spring and summer, and the voting insists it’s strictly a daytime affair, which makes sense: it has no business past sundown. Who is this for? A teenager on her first mall date, maybe, or someone who wants to smell like a gummy vitamin without offending anyone. Skip it if you crave depth or staying power. The overall character is a plastic cherry blossom on a sticky countertop, pretty for a moment, then forgotten. Honestly, could a scent this fleeting really claim to be anything?
