Mandala of Desires opens with a heavy, sweet chocolate note that leans too far into confectionery for some palates. The cinnamon adds a sharp, dry heat that cuts through the initial sugar, while bergamot provides a bright, citrus lift that fades quickly. As the fragrance moves into the heart, the gourmand edge softens. Iris and violet introduce a distinct powdery quality that feels vintage and formal. Ylang-ylang adds a creamy, slightly waxy floral texture that bridges the gap between the spicy top and the massive base. The transition is smooth, but the sheer density of the composition can feel overwhelming if applied heavily.
The foundation is a complex blend of cacao pod, vanilla, and tonka bean that reinforces the chocolate theme with a deeper, fermented richness. Castoreum and myrrh introduce a dark, animalic resinousness that prevents the sweetness from becoming juvenile. Benzoin, Peru balsam, and Tolu balsam create a thick, sticky amber accord, supported by the earthy depth of patchouli and cedar. White musk rounds out the dry down with a clean softness. This is a scent for a heavy wool coat and a quiet, dimly lit room where the air is cold and still outside the window. A thick, dark curtain of resinous powder.
