Our take

Asad Zanzibar pairs lavender and black pepper up top, sharp and a little cold, before coconut water and salt bring in an unusual, briny sweetness through the heart. Iris adds a powdery, slightly violet-toned softness right alongside that salt, an odd but genuinely interesting combination for a fragrance released as recently as 2024. Fanny Bal built the formula, and the coconut water reads as genuinely salty and thin, not the sweet, sun-cream style of coconut.

Vanilla and incense close things out, warm and resinous, giving the whole thing an amber-balsamic finish that settles in well after the quirky opening has faded. Staying power runs long, holding its warm, salty-sweet character firmly once it settles on skin. Sillage stays modest, a warm halo around the wearer, easy to catch up close but never overwhelming, and it performs comfortably across the warmer months, spring and summer especially, with fall still workable. This suits someone drawn to unusual gourmand-adjacent scents who doesn't mind a genuinely salty accord at the center, and anyone who wants a straightforward vanilla or amber fragrance should look elsewhere.
