Our take

Lattafa’s Art of Arabia II opens with a puff of heliotrope and cardamom so dense it feels like stepping into a spice shop at midday, the air thick with pink pepper’s rasp and bergamot’s brief citrus gasp. That fluffy, almost cosmetic powder clings through the heart where almond and jasmine try to soften things, but a stern lavender keeps the sweetness in check. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its keep: a vanilla smoothed over agarwood that smells more like scorched resin than actual oud, propped up by guaiac and sandalwood into a woody, slightly nutty base.

The overall character is a well-stuffed velvet armchair in a smoke-filled library, plush on the surface but with a hidden steel frame. It leans heavier than its sillage rating suggests, projecting a warm, sweet-spicy cloud for about four hours before shrinking to a skin scent. The powdery almond and vanilla feel borderline synthetic, which explains the middling 3.09 average, but that synthetic edge is exactly what makes it wearable for someone who wants a “oud” experience without the barnyard. Suits the confident novice, the guy who wants to smell expensive without smelling like a monastery. Skip it if you crave natural complexity or if heat turns powder into paste. Wear it on cool autumn evenings, buttoned up, heading somewhere dimly lit and smelling like you belong there.
