Ténèbres is a fragrance for the person who wants to smell like a leather jacket left near a censer. The opening pairs apple with incense, and the fruit does not sweeten the smoke. It presses the apple into the resin until the result feels dry and dark. Castoreum and oud arrive soon after, and the animalic edge makes the air feel thick. Vetiver adds a rooty bitterness that keeps the heart from sliding into pure resin. The materials are heavy and unapologetic, and they demand a wearer who is comfortable occupying a room with a scent that does not ask for permission.
The base pulls the composition toward a forest floor after rain. Leather and oakmoss sit beside sandalwood and amber, and the mixture feels earthy and balsamic at once. This is a scent for a narrow street at night when the air is cool and the pavement is damp. The warmth of the amber and the musky depth suit a mood that is private and slightly withdrawn.
