Our take

De Jure opens with a bright, acidic lime and bergamot that cuts through the heavy air of a cold room. Ylang-ylang adds a soft, slightly floral roundness to the citrus, but this initial freshness quickly gives way to a dense, resinous heart. The tobacco and coffee notes arrive with a roasted, bitter edge, softened by the damp, earthy quality of oakmoss and a swirl of dry incense smoke.

The sandalwood and oud in the base provide a dark, woody foundation that feels rich and slightly medicinal. Castoreum pushes this into a distinct leather territory, creating a scent that is animalic, mossy, and undeniably masculine. It is a heavy, sweet, and smoky composition that wraps around the wearer like a thick wool coat, fitting perfectly for a quiet walk through wet autumn leaves or a moment spent near a crackling fireplace.

This fragrance is composed by Anna Shevchuk. The intensity of the oud and the aggressive animalic nature of the castoreum can be overwhelming for those who prefer clean, soapy scents. It is a bold statement that demands a certain tolerance for heavy, barnyard-style leather accords, and it lacks the versatility needed for lighter, casual environments.
