Our take

Sulphur opens with a sharp, almost medicinal snap of grapefruit and rosemary, but don’t be fooled into thinking this is a bright citrus affair. That initial hit is quickly gripped by costus and castoreum, turning the fragrance into something animalic and soiled, like a leather saddle left out in the autumn rain. The angelica adds a green, slightly bitter rootiness while cinnamon and opoponax weave a warm, resinous amber spine through the middle. It’s raw, dirty, and fascinating.

On the drydown, the oakmoss and guaiac wood take over, creating a smoky, powdery-woody base that clings to the skin like the memory of a bonfire on a cold spring evening. The whole thing feels deliberately niche, unpolished in a way that rewards patience. It’s not heavy or sweet, it’s earthy and textured, with a dry spice that never turns gourmand. The longevity and sillage are modest, which is the honest weakness here. You’ll need to reapply if you want to leave a trail, but that also makes it less cloying.

This is for the person who wants to smell like they’ve been handling rare books in a damp forest cabin, not like they’ve bathed in syrup. Skip it if you prefer clean, crowd-pleasing scents. Wear it on a crisp spring afternoon or a cool autumn evening, anywhere you want to feel grounded and a little strange.
