Our take

You spray Treacle and the first thing that hits is Lapsang Souchong tea, all campfire smoke and charred wood, but it’s quickly glossed with molasses and honey. The sweetness here isn’t airy or clean; it’s the thick, dark kind that coats your throat like a spoonful of cough syrup left too long on the stove. Tobacco leaf unfurls in the middle, dry and slightly hay-like, while raisin adds a jammy, almost fermented fruitiness that pushes into a boozy whiskey accord. On skin, this develops slowly, settling into a heavy, resinous blanket that sticks close after the first hour. Longevity is solid at nearly four out of five, but sillage is modest enough that you won’t announce yourself from across the room.

Imagine a tarnished silver hip flask left on a late-Victorian writing desk, still sticky with last night’s honeyed toddy and the ash of a forgotten cigarette. This is unapologetically niche, not striving for mass appeal: natural-smelling, dense, and demanding patience. It’s best worn during a November sleet storm, layered under a wool coat, or curled into a leather armchair with a book. But be warned, the constant sweetness can tip into cloying after a full day, and anyone who recoils from smoky, sticky gourmands should steer clear. Who does this suit? The person who wants to smell like they just stepped out of a sepia photograph, sweet but singed, comfortable with their own gloom. That said, why wear anything else when the world is already gray and cold?
