Shihan (Sensei)
Fragrance notes
Character
Shihan (Sensei) kicks off with a shot of whiskey that’s been left to breathe near a smoldering ashtray, the coffee note more bitter grounds than latte, and tobacco that’s dry, leafy, and unpaid. That opening is a challenge, not a welcome. But give it ten minutes and the spices come crawling in, not the pushy kitchen kind but something ancient and dusty, soothed by myrrh and a quiet incense smoke that never crosses into church. The drydown settles into an amber and labdanum base with a faintly animalic musk, soft enough that you have to lean in to catch it. The whole thing feels like a leather armchair in a bar that shut down an hour ago, the air still holding the ghost of someone else’s conversation. It’s heavy, resinous, and unapologetically warm, but the longevity and sillage are modest, a 3.50 and 3.23, which means you’ll need to reapply if you want it to follow you through an evening. That restraint actually suits its personality, because Shihan isn’t trying to shout. It’s for the person who wants a contemplative, almost solemn scent, not a party trick, and who enjoys the bitter edge of coffee and tobacco without a sweet rescue. Skip it if you crave projection or fresher skins. Wear it on a cold night when you’re reading alone, or on a winter walk where the cold air lets the incense breathe.
