The opening of Alford & Hoff No 2 captures that exact moment with a bright rush of Calabrian bergamot and citruses, joined by a curious water fruit note that feels like a breeze moving over a lake. Black basil adds a dark, leafy edge to the start, preventing the citrus from smelling like a standard cleaning product.
As the initial brightness settles, the heart introduces Guatemalan cardamom, pink pepper, and nutmeg. These spices are handled with a light touch, creating a warm spicy layer that sits comfortably against the skin without becoming heavy or overwhelming. The composition stays true to its aromatic and fresh spicy accords, moving through a clean phase where the pepper provides a slight tingle before the woodier elements take hold.
The base of oak, cedar, moss, and patchouli grounds the scent in a dry, earthy forest floor vibe, but the marine and aquatic accords present in the record keep pulling it back toward the water.
