Loukhoum Parfum du Soir
Fragrance notes
Character
This is a perfume that opens like a spoonful of honeyed almond paste, sticky and rich, with a rose that doesn’t so much bloom as blush from within a cloud of vanilla and tonka. The sweetness is immediate, almost edible, but Keiko Mecheri quickly wraps it in something deeper. Benzoin adds a resinous warmth, while a whisper of oud drifts in like smoke through a half-open window, tethering the whole thing to the earth. By the dry down, patchouli has stepped in to keep the gourmand impulses in check, leaving a slightly powdery, ambered skin scent that still hums with that original nutty sweetness. The overall impression is a velvet ottoman in a candlelit room, worn, soft, and heavy with memory. The longevity is excellent, easily lasting through an evening dinner, though the sillage is restrained, more of a trailing whisper than a shout. This is not a perfume for a bright summer afternoon or a breezy office. It thrives in the deep cold of winter, best worn at night when you want to feel enveloped rather than exposed. Women who love a sweet but grounded oriental will find it intoxicating. Anyone who flinches at a powdery or almond-heavy sweetness should steer clear, because this one does not shy away from its own decadence.
