Our take

Ume opens with a burst of yellow mandarin and bergamot, bright and almost candied, but a peppery sting cuts through the citrus before the stone fruit arrives. Plum and persimmon lean jammy, sticky sweet, while osmanthus and peach blossom add a fuzzy, apricot-like warmth that feels more crafted than natural. The heart layers wisteria, camellia, and jasmine into a creamy floral paste, but the promised spices and mahogany wood stay muffled, only flickering in the background.

As it dries, hinoki and oakmoss step forward with a dry, slightly smoky bite, tempering the fruit into a softer chypre shape. The overall effect is like walking through a sun-warmed orchard in early autumn, where fallen plums ferment on mossy ground, sweet and a little rotten. It feels polished and squarely niche, though the sillage hovers close to the skin and longevity barely stretches past three hours, which undercuts the richness of the composition.

This fragrance suits someone who loves glossy, fruity florals but wants a woody, earthy anchor to keep them from floating away. Skip it if you prefer bold projection or crisp, green scents. Wear it on a cool spring afternoon or a mild winter evening, ideally when you don’t mind reapplying to keep the plum alive.
