Our take

Chi opens with a bold, almost confrontational sweetness: caramel and coffee drenched in warm milk, the almond adding a marzipan richness that teeters on cloying. This is no shy gourmand. Within minutes, the Cambodian oud arrives, rough and animalic, dragging the sweetness into damp earth, truffle, and a patchouli so dark it feels like soil turned over at midnight. The vanilla and tonka eventually smooth the edges, but the base remains a sticky, woody residue of Indian oud and cypriol, like a velvet-lined snuffbox stuffed with caramelized truffles and splinters of resinous wood.

The overall character is dense, leathery, and unapologetically heavy — more suited to a winter coat pocket than a breezy spring picnic, despite the seasonal data. Longevity is solid at over eight hours, though sillage stays moderate; it clings to skin rather than filling a room, which is wise given its sweetness. The blend feels natural in its raw materials, but the composition leans niche in its audacity: a clash of lactonic comfort and barnyard oud that won’t please everyone.

Skip this if you prefer airy florals or clean citruses. Chi is for the wearer who wants to smell like a haunted dessert, someone who enjoys confrontation in fragrance. Wear it on a cold November evening, to a dimly lit dinner, or anywhere you want to feel wrapped in a blanket of caramel and smoke. Just don’t overspray — the sweetness can curdle in heat, and the oud might demand more patience than most are willing to give.
