Our take

A flick of the wrist and Black Leather opens with a slap of smoky bergamot, a citrus that has been left too long next to a dying campfire. It quickly yields to a central leather accord that is not the supple glove of a gentleman but a stiff, unyielding hide, cracked and stained by use. Jasmine threads through the middle like a white silk scarf caught on a rusty hinge, a soft floral contrast against the animalic musk and earthy oakmoss. The tobacco note adds a dry, hay-like sweetness, while vanilla and amber round the edges into a faintly sweet, powdery finish. The whole composition feels like a leather-bound journal left open in a damp autumn forest, pages curling with moss and the faint ghost of someone’s last cigarette.

This is a fragrance of textures, not volume. With a sillage that barely reaches a handshake and longevity hovering around three hours, it is a skin scent by nature, intimate rather than declarative. It leans niche in its refusal to polish the rough edges: the leather stays tough, the musk stays a little dirty, and the sweetness never overwhelms. It suits a person who values mood over projection, someone who wants a fragrance that whispers from a jacket collar rather than shouts across a room. Skip it if you crave beast mode performance or a clean, modern leather.

Wear it in the deep fall when the air smells of wet bark and fallen leaves, or on a crisp winter night when you want to feel wrapped in something worn and true. It works for daytime under a wool coat just as easily as for an evening of quiet melancholy. Is that jasmine too pretty for such a rugged base? Not if you let the moss and smoke have the final word.
