Our take

It begins with a brisk slap of grapefruit and pink pepper, the apple refusing to go full candy and the bergamot keeping things tart and uplifting. Soon enough, the heart unfolds like a greenhouse at dawn: cypress needles and glossy lily of the valley crowd against a peony that’s more dewy than blowsy, with a restrained rose anchoring the floral arrangement. The base pulls everything back to earth with vetiver’s rooty greenness and a clean, barely animalic musk floating over pale ambergris. The overall effect is that of a pressed flower specimen book left open on a rainy windowsill, the pages curling slightly but the petals still crisp and intact.

It feels transparently natural rather than heady, a light, aromatic composition that never cloys or overreaches. That transparency comes at a cost, because the longevity and sillage numbers don’t lie. You’ll catch pleasant wafts for a couple of hours, then it retreats into a soft musky skin scent that requires reapplication for any evening ambition. The Botanist is best suited to someone who wants to smell clean and green without shouting about it, a daytime companion for office or brunch when the weather is mild. Skip it if you crave projection or an all-day statement; this fragrance is a whisper, not a speech, and it knows its place.
