Lael opens with a brisk citrus flash of bergamot and neroli, sharpened by black pepper and petitgrain. The pepper does not overwhelm the bright opening, and the petitgrain adds a leafy green edge that keeps the citrus from feeling like a standard cleaning product. As the initial spray settles, the pepper deepens and joins lavender, juniper berries, cardamom, and sage in a heart that feels like a walk through a sunlit herb garden after rain. The sage and juniper give the blend a cool, resinous texture, while the lavender softens the spice so the transition from the top notes feels smooth rather than abrupt.
The base brings vetiver, oakmoss, iris, leather, and oud into the mix. The vetiver and oakmoss add an earthy, forest-floor dryness that grounds the earlier herbs, while the iris lends a powdery elegance that prevents the leather and oud from turning too heavy. The leather here is smooth and well-worn, not aggressive, and the oud sits quietly in the background, adding depth without dominating the aromatic character.
