Our take

Olivier Cresp knows how to build a sugar rush, and Les Monstres de Nina Ricci starts with a sharp, fizzy burst of lemon and bergamot over a pear and cassis that feels almost candied. The opening is bright and synthetic in the best way, like pulling a lollipop out of a fruit basket. It quickly softens into a cotton candy heart, sweet and powdery, with a pale floral undertone from peony and jasmine that stops the whole thing from sliding into pure soda pop. The dry down is where the surprise lives: a warm praline and vanilla base, nudged by a faint coffee note that keeps the sweetness from feeling childish. This is a roller skating through a spring fair at noon, strawberry snow cone in hand, skirt spinning. The longevity is a real letdown, barely three hours before it turns into a skin scent, and the sillage is a whisper from the start. That makes it perfect for daytime errands or a sunny brunch where you want to smell delicious without announcing yourself. It is unabashedly mainstream, girlish, and fleeting. Who should skip it? Anyone looking for depth, tobacco, or a night out. But if you want a carefree spritz that says sweet without screaming loud, this one works. Is it really a monster or just a tame little pet?
