Our take

You get the name immediately. The Illusionist opens with a splash of watery bergamot and a green, almost plastic ivy note that feels like a magic trick gone slightly wrong. It’s trying to be crisp and fresh, but there’s a synthetic shimmer that never quite washes off. The heart settles into a polite cedar and sage, with iris adding a faint, powdery dustiness that softens the edges. Then the base arrives: a clean musk, some cashmere wood, and moss that just sort of nods politely before fading away. The whole affair is like a stage magician who pulls a rabbit from a hat, but the rabbit is tiny and looks tired.

This is a mainstream aromatic fougere aimed at the guy who wants to smell “fresh” without challenging anyone. It’s light, barely projecting and gone from skin in a couple of hours just as the numbers predict. Great for a spring afternoon stroll or an office where you don’t want to offend, but skip it if you crave depth or longevity. It’s not offensive, but it’s also not memorable. A decent cheapie for the gym bag, nothing more.
