Our take

District of Nolo opens with a startling jolt of damp earth and bitter violet leaf, the lemon and pear slicing through like a blade of sunlight through wet soil. Within minutes, the iris emerges, and this is where the fragrance finds its soul: a powdery, rooty orris smoothed by hedione’s aquatic shimmer and a barely-there rose. The drydown is a clean, ambroxan-heavy musk with a whisper of vanilla, but the pear lingers stubbornly, turning the whole thing into a fruit that was peeled over a freshly tilled garden.

This is a fragrance that wants to be daring and soft at once, like a silk scarf that got tangled in a trowel. It feels synthetic in the best mainstream way, polished but not anonymous, though its weakness is plain: the performance is a tease. With a longevity barely past three hours and a sillage that hugs the skin, it evaporates before the iris can fully bloom. That rating of 3.73 makes sense. It is a spring morning scent for someone who enjoys the intellectual coldness of iris but still wants a fruity nod. Skip it if you need projection or a full day’s wear. Wear it to an art gallery opening in April, or a lunch where you want to smell interesting without screaming for attention. It is a delicate, sharp little thing that disappears too soon, like a question you meant to ask but forgot. 🍐
