Our take

Ostoorah opens with a spray of white floral confetti, bright and almost candied, but that sweetness is swiftly tempered by a dusty, animalic musk that lurks beneath the petals. The heart blooms into a proper rose, not a dewy English garden rose but a dried, almost jammy one, wrapped in a powdery haze that softens its edges. Then comes the oud: a woody, medicinal agarwood that feels more polished than raw, smoothed by amber into a warm, faintly leathery base. The overall character is a well-dressed rose in a velvet-lined box, the kind you might find in an old bazaar, ornate and a little heavy.

This is not a fresh, airy scent. It leans synthetic in a department store way, but the synthetic notes are well blended, giving it a plush, almost velvety texture. Longevity is impressive, easily eight hours, though sillage is moderate, hovering close enough to be noticed but not announced. It works best in autumn and winter, when the warmth can unfurl properly, and it suits someone who wants a confident, old-world floral with an animalic edge. Skip it if you prefer clean, minimalist scents or if loud rose and powdery musk give you a headache. Wear it to a dinner date or a formal evening, when you want to feel like the most interesting person in the room without shouting about it.
