Bois de Oud opens with a sharp lift of lemon and red berries that cuts through the heavy resin already waiting beneath. The ylang-ylang adds a soft, slightly waxy floral touch that keeps the start from feeling too dry. Incense arrives early and carries a grey, mineral edge that feels cool against the fruit.
Rose and peach sit together in the middle, the peach giving the flower a rounded, slightly jammy weight. Guaiac wood and cypriol push in with a dry, root-like bitterness that pulls the sweetness back. Sandalwood smooths the transition, but the heart never fully loses that tension between fruit and earth.
Labdanum and benzoin create a thick, golden resin that sticks to every other note. Leather brings a worn, slightly sour edge that grounds the balsamic warmth. Castoreum adds a deep, animalic weight that makes the base feel heavy and slightly untamed.
The rose here wears a dark coat and walks under wet trees where streetlamps reflect on stone.
