Our take

The first impression is a bright, classic chypre opening where bitter bergamot and neroli sharpen the Amalfi lemon, smelling unmistakably of the 1930s. It feels polished and proper rather than juicy.

Once the citrus settles, the fragrance reveals its true character through a dense, golden heart. The white honey and ylang-ylang create a heavy, narcotic sweetness that borders on cloying, while the carnation and jasmine add a powdery, vintage floralcy. As it dries down, the base notes take over completely. The real story here is the civet and oakmoss. The civet provides a feral, musky growl that cuts through the sweetness, lending the perfume a distinctly animalic and urinous edge. It smells lived-in and slightly unwashed, contrasting sharply with the clean, soapy florals. The vetiver and ambraine add a dusty, earthy woodiness that keeps the drydown grounded and somber.

This is a challenging wear for the modern nose. The heavy dose of animalic musk and the vintage, powdery honey make it feel dated and aggressively mature. It lacks the airy lightness found in contemporary florals, sitting close and heavy rather than evolving gracefully. If you prefer clean, transparent scents, the dirty musk and heavy white florals here will likely feel overwhelming and stale.
