Our take

Richard is a sharp, green-leaning aromatic that opens with a bright lemon and basil snap, then lets a damp, animalic musk take over. The peach is there only to soften the edges, not to lead, and the civet gives the blend a faintly sour, vintage-leaning growl that most modern fresh scents avoid. Cypress and rosemary sit in the background, adding a resinous, herbal weight that keeps the citrus from feeling like a cleaning product. It smells like a gentleman's garden in late summer, where the herbs are wilting and the air is thick with warm stone and skin.

The musk here is powdery and a little stubborn, clinging to fabric with a slightly medicinal edge that some will find charmingly old-school and others will find aggressively unwashed. It is not a safe blind buy for anyone who expects a clean, mass-appealing designer finish. The civet adds a gritty texture that can read as unpolished rather than luxurious, especially if your skin runs warm. Richard suits someone who enjoys a bit of fur and funk in their wardrobe, but it lacks the graceful balance that would make that attitude feel entirely intentional.
