A priest walks past, his robe brushing the floor, leaving a trail of saffron and a bright flash of neroli that cuts through the haze. There is a sharp bite of anise and the clean, citrus snap of bergamot hanging in the air, mixing with the dust that dances in the single beam of light hitting the altar.
As the service continues, the smoke deepens and settles into the skin.
