Our take

I spritz Petra and am met with a bright, almost resinous burst of mandarin and elemi. It is a citrus that feels antique, dusted with frankincense-like warmth, not a modern squeaky clean zest. Within minutes, the geranium and lily-of-the-valley step forward, a cool, green floral heart that feels simultaneously delicate and stern. As time passes, the dry down reveals itself: black pepper’s dry tingle, lotus’s watery sheen, and a Tunisian orange blossom that is honeyed but not syrupy. The overall impression is of a limestone temple overgrown with jasmine and pepper vines, light catching on ancient stone. It smells natural and niche, leaning aromatic and fresh-spicy, with a whiff of rose lurking just beneath the surface.

The problem is that this beautiful ruin fades quickly. Longevity sits barely above a three, sillage almost the same, meaning you will need to reapply or hug someone to be noticed. It is a shame because the composition is genuinely sophisticated, a blend that refuses to be loud or sweet. This fragrance feels most at home in spring and fall, when the air has a bit of bite to match its dry pepper and floral contrast. It works for daytime with that bright mandarin opening, but also holds its own in the evening with the warm spice base. Who should wear it? Someone who appreciates a cerebral, slightly dusty floral with Mediterranean bones, not a bubblegum bouquet. Who should skip? Anyone who demands projection and staying power for their money. Does it last long enough to justify the price? For me, barely, but the first hour is a miniature masterpiece.
