Our take

White Whale opens with a briny slap of salt and a peppery jolt that feels like a seabird taking off. The olibanum adds a smoky, almost ecclesiastical edge, but then the middle notes pull you under. Osmanthus delivers a jammy, apricot-like sweetness that clings to the ambergris, while violet and orris root dust everything in a powdery, slightly cosmetic veil. This is not a fresh aquatic; it is a thick, animalic amber that dries down to a woody patchouli and labdanum base, with vetiver adding a rooty earthiness. The overall character is like finding a piece of driftwood that has been soaked in seawater, dried in the sun, then rolled in dried apricot paste and incense ash. It feels natural in its rawness but with a synthetic sheen from the floral-fruity accord, definitely niche in its refusal to be crowd-pleasing. The ratings tell the story: longevity is mediocre, sillage is whisper-soft, which is a shame because this fragrance begs for projection. It suits someone who loves salty, animalic florals and doesn’t mind reapplying. Skip it if you want a loud, room-filling statement or a straightforward freshie. Wear it on a cool spring afternoon when the sun is warm but the breeze still carries a chill, or on a summer evening when the air smells of brine and flowers.
