Our take

Arsenic Osman opens with a plum so dark and jammy it nearly stains the skin, its tart sweetness immediately dusted with cinnamon that pricks like warm static. The heart is where the paradox lives: Chinese osmanthus pushes apricot-like florals over violet’s powder and Indian jasmine’s indolic cream, a triptych that feels both vintage and synthetic-edge. As it dries down, Madagascar vanilla turns syrupy, but the leather and Indonesian patchouli cut through with a smoky, almost animalic snap, keeping the sweetness from collapsing into candy. The overall character is a crushed velvet opera glove with a tiny rip at the thumb. This is niche through and through, not shy, not subtle, and at times heavy enough to feel cloying if you overspray. The longevity holds at nearly four stars, so it persists, but sillage stays close to moderate, which is honestly a mercy given how rich it is. It suits anyone who likes their florals boozy and their vanillas barnacled with leather, but skip it if you prefer airy, transparent scents or find patchouli’s earthiness intrusive. Best worn in autumn’s crisp chill or winter’s deep cold, and it works for a night out when you want to smell like a decadent secret rather than a cloud. Is it a masterpiece or a beautiful mess? Possibly both. 🍑🍂
