Our take

Varanasi opens with a blast of liturgical smoke, saffron's bitter glow, and the dusty snap of cardamom and nutmeg. It does not whisper. This is Giuseppe Imprezzabile taking you straight into the crush of a ghat at dusk, where incense clings to wet stone and bodies press together in devotion. The heart softens reluctantly: rose and jasmine are smudged by cypriol's green rot, ambrette adds a fuzzy warmth, and ambergris floats like old salt on a humid breeze. Then the base descends, and here is where Varanasi either converts you or loses you. Oud, leather, animal notes, and Himalayan nard converge into something sticky, fecal, and deeply reverent. It smells of worn leather prayer mats left to absorb centuries of sweat, smoke, and resin. The rating sits at 3.93, which feels honest. The longevity is excellent, four out of five, but the sillage is a restrained three point four two, never a room-filler, always an intimate confrontation. This is not a mainstream scent. It is thick, earthy, and slightly synthetic in the opening spices, though the drydown feels natural in the way a temple floor feels natural. Wear it on a cold winter night, alone or in deep conversation, when you want to smell like somewhere sacred and grimy. Skip it if you prefer fresh cotton or simple vanilla. This is perfume as pilgrimage, not decoration.
