Our take

Mohur opens with a bright, peppery snap, cardamom and coriander colliding with a damp, vegetal carrot seed that feels almost earthy, almost rooty. A faint ambrette buzz hums beneath, nudging it toward a soft musk before the heart unfurls. And what a heart it is: a dense, powdered rose draped over almond’s bitter cream, iris’s cool lipstick, and a leather so polished it gleams like an old saddle left out in the rain. This is not a shy scent. It’s a maharaja’s jewel box, carved from sandalwood and lined with crushed velvet, each note a different facet catching the light.

The drydown sinks into a warm, resinous amber base where oud and patchouli play tug of war with vanilla and tonka. The result is woody, sweet, and slightly syrupy, but not cloying. The sillage is a whisper, not a shout, and longevity hovers around three to four hours before retreating to a skin scent. That modest projection is the real weakness here for a fragrance that feels grand in composition yet refuses to broadcast itself. Wear it in the cool air of autumn or a brisk spring evening, when the powder and spice can bloom without suffocating. It suits someone who loves old world glamour and doesn’t need their scent to announce them from across the room. Skip it if you want a fresh, transparent rose or anything that screams for attention. This one leans in and murmurs.
