Our take

Frutto della Passione opens with a squirt of green mandarin and bergamot that feels almost fizzy, but the ylang-ylang and jasmine immediately soften the citrus into something more rounded and syrupy. Within minutes, the heart arrives like a fruit salad that’s been left out in the sun: passionfruit and pineapple jostle with nectarine and peach, while a hint of cinnamon adds a warm, almost dusty edge. The patchouli here isn’t dark or dirty; it’s a clean, earthy backdrop that keeps the sweetness from collapsing into candy floss. As it dries down, the cashmere wood and white musk wrap everything in a soft, powdery haze, with oakmoss and iris lending a slightly mossy, lipstick-like finish. The overall effect is like a tropical bouquet that’s been pressed between the pages of an old paperback, vibrant but a little faded.

This is a very feminine, fruity-floral that leans mainstream in its approach, but L’Erbolario’s blend of natural-smelling fruit and floral notes gives it a touch of Italian sun-drenched realism. The longevity is decent at just under four hours, and the sillage stays close to the skin, a soft aura rather than a room-filler. For a fragrance that lists a dozen fruits, it’s surprisingly balanced, never cloying but definitely sweet. Who should wear it? The person who wants a cheerful, uncomplicated scent for daytime wear, especially in spring or fall, when the warmth feels inviting rather than sticky. Skip it if you prefer dark, brooding compositions or if the idea of smelling like a passionfruit smoothie makes you wince. It works best on a lazy Sunday brunch or a garden party, but it will disappear on a night out. A pleasant, earnest fruity floral that doesn’t pretend to be anything more. 🍑
