Our take

Blue Indigo 14 opens with a sharp, cooling spray of mint and citrus that feels like standing near a fountain on a hot afternoon. The grapefruit and lemon provide a bright, acidic lift that immediately gives way to the heart, where eucalyptus and lavender take a commanding role. This is where the camphor accord becomes most apparent, lending the composition a medicinal, almost clinical edge that cuts through the sweetness of the apple note. Nutmeg adds a subtle, fresh spicy texture that keeps the middle from feeling too sterile. As it settles, the base introduces a dense layer of moss and vetiver, grounding the high-pitched aromatics with a damp, earthy woodiness. Sandalwood and cedar provide a dry foundation, while the musk pulls the green and aromatic elements close to the skin, creating a clean, powdery finish that stays within the realm of traditional fougere structures.

The overall impression is one of meticulous grooming and crisp air, fitting for a bright morning in the city when you want to feel put together. However, the transition between the zesty top and the heavy base is not entirely seamless. The shift from the bright mint to the mossy woods happens abruptly, leaving the lavender caught in a strange middle ground where it smells slightly synthetic against the natural vetiver. Romain Keller has crafted a scent that is undeniably fresh, but that medicinal eucalyptus can become overwhelming and sharp, lacking the soft roundness found in more balanced competitors.
