Our take

Blackwood Sun opens with bright bergamot and blood orange that give the fragrance a sharp citrus start. The tea note sits alongside them and adds a dry, slightly bitter edge that keeps the opening from feeling sweet. This combination feels clean and brisk, with the citrus showing more bite than roundness.

Ebony wood enters as the central element and carries the composition through its middle phase. It presents a dark, polished wood tone that feels dense and slightly dry. The wood does not soften the citrus completely, so the heart keeps a crisp edge while gaining a firm, masculine structure.

Vetiver and patchouli form the base and bring an earthy, warm spicy character to the finish. The vetiver adds a grassy, root-like depth, while the patchouli contributes a heavy, soil-like richness. Together they ground the brighter top notes and leave the fragrance feeling woody, aromatic, and firmly earthy.

The scent stays linear once the wood settles in, with little change as the hours pass. It is composed by Michael Schrammel and launched in 2021. The heavy patchouli may feel too muddy for those who prefer a cleaner, purely citrus aromatic style.
