Our take

You know that moment when a fruit salad left out in the sun starts to ferment, then someone throws a bouquet of white flowers on top and calls it elegance? That’s Gold by Lobogal. It opens with a blast of melon, pineapple, litchi and tangerine so bright it practically squeaks, each fruit jostling for attention against a prickly pink pepper. The heart is a dense wall of Casablanca lily, jasmine, violet and magnolia, all creamy and slightly powdery, like the inside of an old-fashioned cosmetics compact. Then the base pulls a sharp left turn: caramel and vanilla soften into orris root and leather, with a whisper of raspberry and peach that keeps things just sweet enough.

The overall character is a white floral fruit bowl left on a mahogany dresser. It feels synthetic in that early 2000s mainstream way, but not cheap. The sillage is a modest 2.73 and longevity a fleeting 3, so you will need to reapply or hug someone up close to be noticed. This is a spring afternoon scent, best worn to brunch or a casual office where you want to smell pretty without announcing yourself from the doorway. It suits someone who loves sweet powdery florals and doesn’t mind a little fruit punch. Skip it if you crave projection, leather that bites, or anything niche. It is what it is, a soft, forgettable hum that never quite demands your attention.
